Monty's Story

When Founder Jackie came across a post on a local neighborhood Facebook page about a pit bull-like dog running loose, she couldn't ignore it. As she followed the updates over a couple of days, she grew increasingly worried, especially with a big storm on the horizon and New Year's Eve approaching. The situation took a darker turn when people started reporting that the dog was aggressive and had bitten someone. Understanding the gravity of the situation, Jackie immediately turned to her husband Wally, urging him to join her in rescuing the dog before tragedy struck.

On a rainy Friday evening, armed with rotisserie chickens and a slip lead, Jackie and Wally braved the elements to track down the frightened pup. Following leads from the Facebook page, they eventually found him huddled on a porch, seeking refuge from the cold rain. Despite the dog's initial fear and reluctance, they persisted, following him for hours until they were able to safely secure him in a fenced yard.

After a tender 30 minutes of coaxing with chicken pieces, they managed to leash him and take him to the vet for a microchip scan, which unfortunately yielded no results. The dog bore signs of a difficult past, with a makeshift harness held together by shoestrings and a scarred ear, yet he showed a yearning for affection and human connection.

In honor of the neighborhood where he was found, they named him Sir Montegue of the Rosemont, though he preferred the simpler moniker of Monty. Over the course of a year, Jackie and Wally fostered Monty, hoping to find him a forever home, only to realize that he had already found it with them. Monty not only became a beloved member of their family but also a source of comfort and support for other foster animals that came through their doors.

Today, Monty is affectionately known as "Uncle Monty" and holds a special place in the hearts of Jackie and Wally, symbolizing their commitment to rescue and care for animals in need. As the first rescue mission they undertook together, Monty remains a cherished mascot in their organization's logo, a reminder of the impact one dog can have on a family and a community.

Dahilia's Story

Woof! Meet Dahlia, a feisty little Belgian Malinois who went from almost
abandoned to breed ambassador and spoiled princess. Dahlia was only 12
weeks old when she was on her way to being dumped at the shelter.
Unbeknownst to Heidy Jacinto, our medical coordinator, Dahlia had been bouncing to new homes every
week since she was 8 weeks old. Heidy was her 4th and final owner.

BelgianMalinois are not a breed for everyone, Heidy had experience with shepherds of all kinds, but Dahlia was her first Malinois. Heidy started puppy obedience courses and socialization immediately. She has excelled at everything and while she enjoys the life of a spoiled princess, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows.

Because of Dahlia, Heidy now advocates for more responsible pet ownership. Powerful breeds like Belgian Malinois, German Shepherds, Rottweilers, Cane Corsos are appearing in shelters all too frequently now due to the social media craze; but they all require the investment of both time and training. In the end, Dahlia is the definition of, with perseverance you can achieve wonderful things! She’s the best hiking buddy and Heidy's sassiest child. Heidy can’t imagine her life without her. Easter Egg Alter: Dahlia is the inspiration for the pointy ears in our logo!
